Man and Van Richmond has done it. Have you?
Here at Man and Van Richmond, we love a good clear-out as much as the next person. You’ll be surprised at what a difference it can make.
So, the time has come. You have to move. In your head, you know the items that will be making the journey. For example: the fridge, beds, sofa’s, clothes and other assorted essentials. But what about that extra wardrobe of clothes, that room which has only been visited three times in the past few months and is more of an indoor waste refuse than a fourth bedroom. What about the bike you purchased two summers ago when your ride to work idea was fresh, has that seen any pavement lately?
Everyone wants to save money when moving home, why not try and make some. There is the traditional method of a good old fashioned “Garage sale”. However, if you don’t wish to sit there all day watching punters go through your belongings, why not try one of the many auction sites online. Sites like eBay or Gumtree are visited by millions each day. You may think that ‘Back to the Future 2’ VHS copy is worthless, but let me tell you there will be someone in the world who has been searching for that copy for months. If your not sure about selling unwanted items, then you could try somthing like freecycle. A site where people post unwanted goods for free, providing they can be collected. Man and Van Richmond could even help with the delivery.
If the effort of taking photos of everything and putting them up for auction is not something you can be bothered with, why not bag up all the items and send them off to your local charity shop. Man and Van Richmond will even take them down there on the day of the move for you. That way your free of the clutter when moving and feel good in the fact that you have done some good for the community.
Man and Van Richmond looks at Carpet Cleaning
Many customers ask Man and Van Richmond if we can recommend someone
Man and Van Richmond has met many people who are having this dilemma, the cleaning of the carpets in the new home by themselves or hire a professional. Here are the pros and cons.
The team at Man and Van Richmond has extensive experience with people who are moving. Many of them ask our employees of advice when it comes to cleaning a new home.
The first thing you pay attention when you enter your new house is whether it looks clean or somewhat dirty. Sure, the dust on the shelves can be brushed off, but what about the carpets? If they look worn out or dirty the entire house looks filthy. So people have asked us if they should do this themselves or hire a professional. If you have just a spot or two on your carpet, you can try to clean those stains alone. Some fabric cleaner and a wet sponge can do wonders sometimes.
You can save money and rent a wet-cleaner machine from a local store. The cleansing products can be obtained separately, but mostly, are included in the renting price. Although, these machines won’t give the result that a professional carpet cleaning company will get. As a result, you might find that the landlord or letting agency will charge for an end of tenancy carpet clean anyway. So, it’s worth consulting your tenancy agreement first to make sure you’re not wasting time and money.
If you do not have the time or scrubbing carpets is not something you particularly care for. Or maybe you’re concerned that all the wild parties have left your carpet in a worse condition than you thought. Then a thorough clean is really only something that only a professional can guarantee…hopefully!
Man and Van Richmond advises you to plan your carpet cleaning even before you move into your new apartment.

What To Do Once Man and Van Richmond’s Moved You
Following last week’s Man and Van Richmond blog instalment where we offered some words of wisdom about activities to do with young children, if you’re new (or even old) to our great capital. This week Man and Vans suggest activities for the whole family to enjoy together.
If you’re stuck for something to do on a rainy day. Why not head out to one of the several free museums or galleries that are across the city. We really are spoiled for choice in this great city. With so many different exhibitions on offer all the time and even an interactive section for kids, the Science Museum is always popular. There really is something to please everybody. Not only this, but keeping an eye out for temporary exhibits is always a good idea. Many of the Man and Vans team visit the Science Museum regularly.
