Only a few weeks ago Man and Vans’ blog posted details on the architectural derricks (cranes fixed to walls) around Borough Market that would be useful for Man and Van Southwark. This week Man and Vans’ blog is a little more off the wall. Van Damme and the Elephant Man is an East London party night run by its namesake and drivers of Man and Van Tower Hamlets are big fans.
The first parties started in a squat in Whitechapel but, like many clients of Man and Vans, the move to something better was easy, convenient and efficient. In a tragic accident last week a man died while trying to surf on a white van. Reminiscent of the film teen wolf, the man from Lancashire, was last seen mounting the roof of a white Fiat Doblo in Union Street, Chorley, in the early hours of Sunday 9th August. He was found eight minutes later by a taxi driver on Southport Road and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital, but died later. Police are appealing for the driver and a man with the van driver to come forward.
Man and Vans would like to extend this appeal to those in or around the Chorley area on the morning of Sunday 9th August. This man with a van needs to be found to assist the police with enquiries. Dr Miles Wilks, from Preston Royal hospital, was available to comment: “This was a tragic event that need not have happened. I would not like to comment officially on the case until the coroners report has been completed but I Â would suspect the man was under the influence of alcohol. I would appeal to this unknown man with a van to step forward to help with police enquiries.”
Featured in the 1985 film Teen Wolf van surfing, standing on top a moving van with a man driving, is popular among college fraternities and older high school leavers. The practice, it appears, has now come to the United Kingdom. Man and Van Islington was astounded. Man and Vans, London’s original light removal and man with a van service, could not believe it’s eyes as it drove past Higbury and Islington tube station last week. As Man and Van Islington was providing its reliable and competitve service, in the North London borough, when it was confronted with 50 volunteers, covered in blue and tied together with ribbon, tracking the path of a long dried up river.
This living artwork, which Man and Van Islington deeply admires, is entitled Walbrook and has been created by 39 year old artist Sharrocks. This follows on from her 2006 work, Drift, which saw her sharing an inflatable boat with individuals in a deserted swimming pool near Man and Vans base in South London. This time more than the hardworking staff of Man and Van Islington were taken back bythis spectacular piece. One commuter, who found herself dressed in blue and amongst the volunteers, as they cascaded down upper street, was taken by the flow of this living artwort.
The Indepedent reported the event and even commented on Man and Van Islington’s stunned reaction to the event.
