Lambeth Release Parking Footage

February 25th, 2010

CCTV - Man and Van Lambeth opinionsMan and Van Lambeth was very interested to find out about a new addition to the Lambeth Council website, it’s something that is bound to interest the motorists who, shall we say, don’t always pay the closest attention to parking laws in different councils…  That’s right, for those of you who have picked up a parking fine in the fine borough of Lambeth you can now see a live video of you breaking (or not breaking) that certain law.

Lambeth council have added a feature on their website where you can enter your penalty charge notice, as well as a few other details to see photos, or even CCTV footage of your violation.  So if you’re not convinced you’ve done something wrong, you can double check to see if the fine is deserved or not.  Here at Man and Van Lambeth we’re happy to see this come into affect, it will surely save a lot of the councils employees time when people can make their own judgement about if contesting a fine is worth it or not.  After all it would be quite hard to deny you were parked on that double yellow if you can see yourself pop out of the car and into the shop to get that last cornish pasty before you drive off down a bus lane!

Man and Van Lambeth also enjoy the fact that CCTV footage is being opened to the public, there is always a lot of complaints about the British public being the most monitored in the World.  But at least this time the CCTV footage can actually come to the help of those looking to beat a fine which they’ve undeservedly been handed. It’s nice to see a bit of transparency with the footage, as in too many cases councils will treat it as though it is some top secret tape that can’t be shown to anyone!

Man and Van Earslfield gets busy

February 18th, 2010

Man and Van Earlsfield PondIt’s been a busy few weeks for Man and Van, and Man and Van Earlsfield has been especially busy with a host of new jobs that had to be done. As usual they were carried in the most professional manner, with great feedback from our customers. It seems Earlsfield is  gaining a lot of popularity amoung young professionals looking for the perks of living in South London, without the inflated house prices of Clapham or other nearby areas!  The transport links are also pretty great, with Earlsfield station running trains to Clapham, Vauxhall and Waterloo within 15 minutes.

It’s not a particularly well known area but those who do live there seem to love it!  And it’s not too surprising to see why, Wandsworth Common within walking distance, a good amount of independent little cafe’s and restaurants gives the area a real sense of community.  There’s a few notable mentions to be made about famous residents who’ve lived in the area, none other than former Blue Peter presenter Peter Duncan, as well as Paul Merton. A prestigious group I think you’ll agree…  We’re always very happy to do jobs in Earlsfield as our offices are in fact based in the area meaning it’s very easy for us to get to any jobs very quickly.  If you would like more information about Man and Van Earlsfield services, or a quote please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Never Illegally Park in Westminster!

February 11th, 2010

Man and Vans Westminster hear of parking gaffeMan and Van Westminster recently found out about a rather unfortunate soul who made the mistake of parking in the wrong place, at the very wrong time.  It started off as a fairly normal day for Michael Raphel, taking his friends to the train station to make sure that they would get there on time.  Now being a bit cheeky he decided to park up on a double yellow line, a bit cheeky, but even if he was caught he thought the worse to happen would be a fine.

Unfortunately for him it turned out to be the day before Remembrance Day, and where he parked was only a quarter of a mile away from the home of a certain person by the name of Gordon Brown. When Mr Raphel came back from the train station he couldn’t quite believe it but there were policemen surrounding his car and the doors and boot had been blown out.

As it turned out his car had been reported as suspicious, he’d been caught running away from his car on CCTV (to make it to the train station on time) and because of the location of it police believed it might have been a bomb of some sort!  He was parked in Westminster and due to the sensitivity of the area, couple with there being a parade planned in that area for the next day the police had decided to take no risks in getting rid of the ‘threat’.

Goes without saying that Man and Van Westminsterwould never try and cheekily park up in illegal spaces during a job, and poor Mr blah blahs experience could make those thinking of taking the risk think twice.

Man and Van in Peckham!

February 4th, 2010

Man and Van in PeckhamNow a lot of people think of Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter and Rodney when Peckham’s first mentioned, the cheeky wideboys from the very popular sitcom ‘Only Fools and Horses’.  The programme became quite the British establishment on television and actually holds the record for the highest viewing figures for a sitcom episode, with the 1996 episode ‘Time on Our Hands’ garnering over 25 million viewers!  But it does show quite a skewed view of what Peckham is like, it follows their attempts to get rich in a series of slightly dodgy deals and business ideas. The show also gave the Reliant Robin van a nice publicity boost! A van that unfortunately (or is that fortunately?) we don’t use on our jobs.

Recently Peckham has had quite a revival!  With trendy bars, clubs and gastro pubs springing up all over the place. And we’re happy to say that  Man and Van in Peckham has given a hand to some new businesses springing up, as usual giving the best service to those who need their stuff moved around London. Be it light or heavy removals, no job is too big or small for Man and Vans to help with.

It’s not only businesses that are moving that have required our help, but Peckham is also becoming an increasingly popular place for young families to move to. It’s in a good area with Peckham Rye Park providing a skate park, multiple football pitches, and a lovely pond that’s home to many types of fish aswell as terrapins!  It’s a perfect place to spend those lazy weekend during the long summer days.

Flatshares with Man and Van Clapham

December 16th, 2009

At a time when we’re all saving the pennies and looking at ways to cut costs, flat sharing has been an increasinglyclapham common tube popular way of reducing outgoings, with many young professionals moving to the Southern suburbs of London with the help of Man and Van Clapham. Its relatively inexpensive properties have been a godsend during the recession to those who have wanted to recently downsize, and for first time buyers, having lodgers or flatmates to help pay the bills is an excellent idea. This young, vibrant part of the city offers so much to the new resident, with a host of bars, clubs and restaurants to whet any appetite. For anyone of a theatrical inclination, the streets fill with fancy dress costumes, particularly on a Friday or Saturday night- it is quite a site to behold!
Good thing the population seem to be migrating to Clapham, too, as the summer months on and around Clapham Common see an explosion of activity, a huge range of festivals and events to cater for every age group. The Ben and Jerry’s Sundae festival arrives mid summer, just in time to cool us down for any heat wave coming our way.
If you feel like you’d like to experience the party vibe of Clapham, and need a little hand moving, give us a call and find out for yourself what our friendly, personal service can offer you.

The favourite eateries of Man and Van Battersea

December 2nd, 2009

Man and Van Battersea love cupcakesIt a commonly known thing that we at Man and Van Battersea love our food- particularly our drivers who need a good deal of nosh to keep them going throughout their busy days of lifting and lugging, pushing and pulling, and taking a good deal of care over moving your wares around. In order to keep our lads going, they often stop off for a quick bite to eat before popping off to a job, and where better to do that than some of the delicious eateries in and around Battersea. If you’re ever near the Northcott Road on a Saturday morning, swing by the delicious bread and cake stalls- excellent sources of energy for active adults and kids alike!-and sample what they have to offer. If you’re after something a little more substantial, then Northcott Road also boasts a whole host of other restaurants to grab a bite, such as Gormet Burger Kitchen, Buona Sera, and The Boiled Egg and Soldiers, all very friendly places to eat with a great personalised service, just like we strive to give at Man and Vans. With a family feel to our business, just like many of these eateries, you can rest assured that you will receive a professional and helpful service for every part of your move, from the time you pick up the phone to the moment that the last chair is taken into your new accommodation. Of course, if you’re moving away from Battersea, it may be a good idea to stock up on some of the local treats before you go!

Boris encourages Man and Van London to go green

November 25th, 2009

Boris Johnson goes green on his bikeBoris Johnson has said that plans for the third level of the Low Emission Zone will be in place by 2012, by which time owners of vehicles in force for every small business in the capital must be adhering to the stated guidelines. Among the measures are rules  that each van driven by Man and Van London will be liable for a £200 daily charge for being on the road, £100 for each of the smaller vans such as those owned by own good friends The Water Delivery Company, with large penalties if these go unpaid. Also stated is that vans that do not meet green guidelines, such as the Euro 5 Standards of air quality, there will be further fines. We at Man and Vans are all for going and keeping green, particularly in a city such as London where fuel emissions are consistently high, and the greenhouse effect is becoming a very real problem for us and for future generations. Others, however, are a little more concerned: a spokesperson for The Federation of Small Businesses expressed a worry that it was precisely these companies who will suffer most once these laws come into force, particularly as many continue to struggle from losses caused by the recession.
You can keep undated on the Mayor’s plans on the London Assembly website.

Man and Van Dulwich

November 12th, 2009

man and van dulwich 300x225It’s been six months now since Alleyn’s School in Dulwich was closed down for Swine Flu and we all pleased to say the world hasn’t come to an end. We all managed to catch it, and bin it safely and the flu pandemic was contained. Man and Vans, London’s leading light removal service, was never overly concerned with Swine Flu (see Man and Van Ealing has No Fear) and continued to provide its efficient, reliable and friendly service for London removals. Man and Van Dulwich is here to help with your light removal needs just as it was when the world was coming to an end in a haze of tissues and sneezes.

Famous residents of Dulwich include cold feet actor James Nesbitt, Comedian Jo Brand, newsreader Huw Edwards and Bestival promoter and DJ Rob Da Bank. Even former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher owns a house in Dulwich. Man and Van Dulwich can provide help for any client. Whether they are an English peer, a local shop keeper or a student at Dulwich College Man and Van Dulwich can fulfill all your light removal needs.

Unfortunately (or should that be thankfully) Dulwich has lost Samantha Fox as a resident. The former glamour girl, and third most photographed woman of the 1980s, was a former neighbour of Magaret Thatcher (the second most photographed woman of the 1980s). Man and Van Dulwich provides a discrete service and would never dream of taking photos of any of their clients. Anyone who thinks they know who the most photographed woman of the 1980s can add a comment to this blog and we’ll revel who’s correct.
