Man and Vans Camberwell visit the theatre

March 1st, 2010

man and van camberwell loves the blue elephantIt’s not only moving our clients safely and efficiently around London that we at Man and Van Camberwell are interested in, oh no. We love to dabble in artistic and creative pursuits such as going to the theatre and art galleries. Camberwell boasts a number of things to quench our dramatic and visual appetites, a few of which seem to relatively well-kept secrets. The Blue Elephant Theatre is a delightful black box fringe theatre, which plays host to a multitude of dance, musical and drama pieces; recent delights include the recently translated “The Title of the Drama about Ante is Written Here” by Croatian playwright Ivor Martinic, and Julius Caesar, by our very own widely celebrated William Shakespeare. For those who prefer to gaze longingly at pretty pictures, Camberwell School of Art holds regular exhibitions and displays of talented students’ work- the Man and Van Camberwell crew have been so inspired by sights as these that we’re thinking of holding our very own painting competition…any ideas for a theme are welcome, and of course we’ll need an adjudicator/judge. If you’d like to arrange/partake in such an event for our team, do let us know! We do need some new artwork in the office….

Lambeth Release Parking Footage

February 25th, 2010

CCTV - Man and Van Lambeth opinionsMan and Van Lambeth was very interested to find out about a new addition to the Lambeth Council website, it’s something that is bound to interest the motorists who, shall we say, don’t always pay the closest attention to parking laws in different councils…  That’s right, for those of you who have picked up a parking fine in the fine borough of Lambeth you can now see a live video of you breaking (or not breaking) that certain law.

Lambeth council have added a feature on their website where you can enter your penalty charge notice, as well as a few other details to see photos, or even CCTV footage of your violation.  So if you’re not convinced you’ve done something wrong, you can double check to see if the fine is deserved or not.  Here at Man and Van Lambeth we’re happy to see this come into affect, it will surely save a lot of the councils employees time when people can make their own judgement about if contesting a fine is worth it or not.  After all it would be quite hard to deny you were parked on that double yellow if you can see yourself pop out of the car and into the shop to get that last cornish pasty before you drive off down a bus lane!

Man and Van Lambeth also enjoy the fact that CCTV footage is being opened to the public, there is always a lot of complaints about the British public being the most monitored in the World.  But at least this time the CCTV footage can actually come to the help of those looking to beat a fine which they’ve undeservedly been handed. It’s nice to see a bit of transparency with the footage, as in too many cases councils will treat it as though it is some top secret tape that can’t be shown to anyone!

Never Illegally Park in Westminster!

February 11th, 2010

Man and Vans Westminster hear of parking gaffeMan and Van Westminster recently found out about a rather unfortunate soul who made the mistake of parking in the wrong place, at the very wrong time.  It started off as a fairly normal day for Michael Raphel, taking his friends to the train station to make sure that they would get there on time.  Now being a bit cheeky he decided to park up on a double yellow line, a bit cheeky, but even if he was caught he thought the worse to happen would be a fine.

Unfortunately for him it turned out to be the day before Remembrance Day, and where he parked was only a quarter of a mile away from the home of a certain person by the name of Gordon Brown. When Mr Raphel came back from the train station he couldn’t quite believe it but there were policemen surrounding his car and the doors and boot had been blown out.

As it turned out his car had been reported as suspicious, he’d been caught running away from his car on CCTV (to make it to the train station on time) and because of the location of it police believed it might have been a bomb of some sort!  He was parked in Westminster and due to the sensitivity of the area, couple with there being a parade planned in that area for the next day the police had decided to take no risks in getting rid of the ‘threat’.

Goes without saying that Man and Van Westminsterwould never try and cheekily park up in illegal spaces during a job, and poor Mr blah blahs experience could make those thinking of taking the risk think twice.

Man and Van in Peckham!

February 4th, 2010

Man and Van in PeckhamNow a lot of people think of Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter and Rodney when Peckham’s first mentioned, the cheeky wideboys from the very popular sitcom ‘Only Fools and Horses’.  The programme became quite the British establishment on television and actually holds the record for the highest viewing figures for a sitcom episode, with the 1996 episode ‘Time on Our Hands’ garnering over 25 million viewers!  But it does show quite a skewed view of what Peckham is like, it follows their attempts to get rich in a series of slightly dodgy deals and business ideas. The show also gave the Reliant Robin van a nice publicity boost! A van that unfortunately (or is that fortunately?) we don’t use on our jobs.

Recently Peckham has had quite a revival!  With trendy bars, clubs and gastro pubs springing up all over the place. And we’re happy to say that  Man and Van in Peckham has given a hand to some new businesses springing up, as usual giving the best service to those who need their stuff moved around London. Be it light or heavy removals, no job is too big or small for Man and Vans to help with.

It’s not only businesses that are moving that have required our help, but Peckham is also becoming an increasingly popular place for young families to move to. It’s in a good area with Peckham Rye Park providing a skate park, multiple football pitches, and a lovely pond that’s home to many types of fish aswell as terrapins!  It’s a perfect place to spend those lazy weekend during the long summer days.

Man and Van Camden flex their Muscles

January 27th, 2010

man and van camden flex their musclesWe have thought for a while that our wonderful, stunning, efficient removal men maybe deserve a little more exposure (not in that way, thanks). They work so hard all day, lifting, lugging and carefully carrying your precious wares, and thus have some serious guns on them. That’s right ladies and gents, we’re thinking (they haven’t quite approved this yet, but we’re sure they’ll come round to the idea) of holding our very own Man and Van Camden strong man competition some time in the New Year. We’re thinking of making a whole day of it; music, bouncy castle, balloon sculpting, and for the children, a whole host of exciting toys to play with,  and maybe even much coveted rides in the removals vans. When asked of his opinion of this idea, logistics manager Roman said “Well, I’d better get going on the heavy lifting, the other boys have a definite advantage. The phone truly is not as heavy as most furniture”. Wise words  indeed, Roman. We’ll keep you posted on the progress of our strong Man and Van Camden competition- in the mean time, any offers for training buddies? Or of course water bottle/towel holders…

The future of Burgess Park, Camberwell

January 6th, 2010

Burgess Park, situated between Camberwell and Walworth, is due to undergo a huge redevelopment, at the cost of £6 million. A competition for designing the new park was recently launched for budding designers to show off their talent, which attracted over aplan for burgess park hundred entries. The winner was announced last month, following public consultation(at the time of writing they were still unknown). An excellent idea we think, as all too rarely locals are consulted on changes being made to their immediate vicinity. The revamp, which will not only see general improvements to the grass and path areas, promised more cultural events for locals to attend, but also incorporates a lakeside amphitheatre and several outdoor gyms. With plans to complete the park’s “facelift” prior to the 2012 Olympics, people from both areas will be able to enjoy their new space very soon. Man and Van Camberwell know that with all these great plans for the area, it’s likely to attract more property owners, particularly those with children who’ll be able to appreciate all the park has to offer at its fullest. If you’re thinking of moving to or from Camberwell, do give us a call, we’ll discuss your requirements and give you a quote. It really is that simple! We look forward to hearing from you.

Wandsworth’s Olympic Pin

December 23rd, 2009

London landmarksAs the Olympics draw ever nearer, Wandsworth residents are being encouraged to vote for the landmark that they’d most like to see representing the borough on their Olympic pin, which will be released as part of a set, along with one for each of the 33 other London areas, to commemorate the 2012 games. The favourite sites which have made it to the short list include Wandsworth Bridge, Battersea power station, and the Buddhist Peace Pagoda which makes for a beautiful centre piece in Battersea Park.
We at Man and Van Wandsworth have our own thoughts on the borough’s contribution to the pins, which are set to become valuable collector’s items, although we’d better get cracking, as voting closes at midnight on the 18th October.
The idea behind the pins comes as part of the Landmark London scheme, in partnership with each of the local councils, encouraging locals to go and explore their local areas, and take advantage of the beautiful things to see and do. Lucky for us as at Man and Van Wandsworth, we have ample opportunity to soak up the sites of the city as we drive through many of the different areas on our way to and from removal jobs.
Let us know your thoughts and which iconic image you would be proud to have representing your borough!

Man Van London

October 5th, 2009

man-and-van-poem3Man and Vans, London’s original light removals service, has news regarding its favourite poet. We’ve found another poem by Man Van London, the author of Clutter. Man and Vans found this poem on lemonfingers.com a forum for aspiring writers. The poem titled Neanderthal Trainspotter is another haiku by Man Van London. At Man and Vans we, ironically, prefer Clutter but will continue to look at for more of Man Van London’s work.
