Boris encourages Man and Van London to go green

November 25th, 2009

Boris Johnson goes green on his bikeBoris Johnson has said that plans for the third level of the Low Emission Zone will be in place by 2012, by which time owners of vehicles in force for every small business in the capital must be adhering to the stated guidelines. Among the measures are rules  that each van driven by Man and Van London will be liable for a £200 daily charge for being on the road, £100 for each of the smaller vans such as those owned by own good friends The Water Delivery Company, with large penalties if these go unpaid. Also stated is that vans that do not meet green guidelines, such as the Euro 5 Standards of air quality, there will be further fines. We at Man and Vans are all for going and keeping green, particularly in a city such as London where fuel emissions are consistently high, and the greenhouse effect is becoming a very real problem for us and for future generations. Others, however, are a little more concerned: a spokesperson for The Federation of Small Businesses expressed a worry that it was precisely these companies who will suffer most once these laws come into force, particularly as many continue to struggle from losses caused by the recession.

Man and Van Dulwich

November 12th, 2009

man and van dulwich 300x225It’s been six months now since Alleyn’s School in Dulwich was closed down for Swine Flu and we all pleased to say the world hasn’t come to an end. We all managed to catch it, and bin it safely and the flu pandemic was contained. Man and Vans, London’s leading light removal service, was never overly concerned with Swine Flu (see Man and Van Ealing has No Fear) and continued to provide its efficient, reliable and friendly service for London removals. Man and Van Dulwich is here to help with your light removal needs just as it was when the world was coming to an end in a haze of tissues and sneezes.

Famous residents of Dulwich include cold feet actor James Nesbitt, Comedian Jo Brand, newsreader Huw Edwards and Bestival promoter and DJ Rob Da Bank. Even former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher owns a house in Dulwich. Man and Van Dulwich can provide help for any client. Whether they are an English peer, a local shop keeper or a student at Dulwich College Man and Van Dulwich can fulfill all your light removal needs.

Unfortunately (or should that be thankfully) Dulwich has lost Samantha Fox as a resident. The former glamour girl, and third most photographed woman of the 1980s, was a former neighbour of Magaret Thatcher (the second most photographed woman of the 1980s). Man and Van Dulwich provides a discrete service and would never dream of taking photos of any of their clients. Anyone who thinks they know who the most photographed woman of the 1980s can add a comment to this blog and we’ll revel who’s correct.

Man and Van Richmond’s Crazy Bet

November 6th, 2009

man and van crazy bet 215x300Man and Van Richmond’s drivers like to gamble but “Crazy Bet” has nothing to do with the three thirty at Kempton. Today is the 99th anniversary of the death of Elizabeth “Crazy Bet” Van Lew. This courageous and brave woman helped the defenseless at huge person risk. Elizabeth “Crazy Bet” Van Lew was a citizen of Richmond, Virginia not Surrey, who helped Union soldiers and slaves during the American Civil War.

Man and Vans, London’s leading light removal service, is committed to diversity and equality and Man and Van Richmond thinks it’s important to remember the work of “Crazy Bet” on the day of her death. Bornon 12th October 1818 to one of Richmond’s wealthiest families Elizabeth Van Lew stayed loyal to the United States after Virginia seceded in the spring of 1861. She helped ease the suffering of Union soldiers, who were being held as prisoners in a warehouse near her home.

As the war continued Elizabeth became an effective espionage agent for the Union passing information from Union prisoners to Generals using a cipher that she created. The information she communicated was crucial to generals, who captured the city of Richmond in 1865. Named “Crazy Bet” by Richmond’s Confederate citizens, who couldn’t understand Elizabeth’s support for slaves and Union soldiers, she was  decorated as a hero by President Ulysees S Grant at the end of the war.

Like the Confederate Army Man and Vans has a secure warehouse but Man and Van Richmond prefer to store your belongings rather than prisoners of war.
