Man and Vans, London’s leading light removal service, likes to bring you news of its operations around the capital. Only a few weeks ago Man and Vans’ blog posted details on the architectural derricks (cranes fixed to walls) around Borough Market that would be useful for Man and Van Southwark. This week Man and Vans’ blog is a little more off the wall. Van Damme and the Elephant Man is an East London party night run by its namesake and drivers of Man and Van Tower Hamlets are big fans.
The first parties started in a squat in Whitechapel but, like many clients of Man and Vans, the move to something better was easy, convenient and efficient. The parties might have got main stream but Van Damme and the Elephant Man’s last shindig was as crazy as ever. Featuring art from Laurence Owen, who was caught stark naked on the roof, and Paddy, who keeps pubic hair in a fridge at Falmouth college to start a colony of bacteria for use in his art, Van Damme and the Elephant Man parties also contain a range of Music. From hip hop to spoken poetry there’s something for every Man and Van Tower Hamlets’ driver.

The market was originally established on the South bank when the Romans built the first London Bridge and has been in its present site for 250 years.
Borough market is well known as a wholesale market, a retail market for fine food and has been voted the location for the ‘Best Breakfast in London’. The Rake pub, in borough market, even holds the Class Bar Awards for ‘Best Beer Experience’ and the Time Out Best Bar Award. Borough Market is great but now website Faded London is showing parts of Borough Market that even Man and Van Southwark hadn’t seen before.
Faded London shows pictures of unique and original architechurual features in London some of which would be very handy for Man and Van Southwark today. ‘Derricks’, for example, are small fixed cranes that used to lift crates and boxes around Borough Market. Man and Van Southwark can provide an efficient and friendly service without these derricks but I know some of Man and Van’s Southwark drivers would appreciate them.

Man and Van Ealing has always been environmentally conscious but not even our strong environmental policy can compete with the deal made by West London Waste Authority. WLWA have struck a deal with BiogenGreenfinch Ltd to turn Ealing, Hounslow and Richmond’s waste food into electricity. Anything from mouldy bread to rotten eggs will be collected from the doorsteps of the three boroughs and burnt at an anaerobic digestion (AD) plant. The resulting methane will produce enough ‘green electricity’ for the national grid to continuously power 3,00 homes.
Man and Vans Company Owner, Robert Innes, has family ties in Ealing and is very supportive of the project; “Man and Vans has always been committed to providing an efficient, reliable and also environmentally conscious service. Man and Van Ealing like the rest of Man and Vans London is very supportive of this project. My family has been collecting waste food in little green bins for some time now and it’s nice to know our effort is going towards a useful goal.”
Ealing Council, along with those in Hounslow and Richmond, could save millions of pounds used normally for land fill tax. Councillor Irwin Van Colle, chairman of WLWA, said; “AD represents the future of waste management. Diverting waste from landfill like this saves money for council tax payers, helps generate electricity and provides a biofertiliser for use on farmlands.” As well as the cost benefits AD plants use of methane reduces the emission of the gas into the atmosphere. Methane is a greenhouse gas twenty two time more damaging than carbon dioxide and its refinement and processing will be a positive step towards the slowing of global warming.
