Will your new House Number Bring you Luck?

July 21st, 2010
man and vans highgate likes the number 23 150x150Let’s face it, moving house, upping sticks and taking all your belongings with you, ready to begin a new life elsewhere (whether this means five minutes or five hundred miles away), is stressful enough without worrying oneself about whether the number of your new residence will be lucky for the years to come. Most people probably have never thought about this, never considered choosing somewhere because of the door colour or number (quite right too, we say), but a recent report in the Daily Mail has said that maybe we should not be so flippant about these things. Apparently, the most unlucky number to live at is 33, whilst those who reside at number 76 are the least likely to suffer burglary or fire. Interestingly enough, almost half of the 6,000 adults interviewed for the article said they would go out of their way to avoid living at number 13. Of course, wherever you’re living, with whatever number on the door, negligence on the part of the homeowner is always a factor when it comes to protecting yourself and your family, so keep your stuff locked up tight.
Although here at Man and Vans Highgate we cannot help you choose the place you’ll be moving too, or indeed chase away any bad luck that may be lurking there, but we can help your move go as smoothly as possible. If you’d like any more information about our service, or our superstitious inclinations, please do get in touch-and don’t step on the pavement cracks. Thanks.

SJ and Matthew are Relocating

July 14th, 2010
the happy couple are relocating 150x150One thing that we love more than moving houses and helping our lovely clients with all their wares here at Man and Vans Hackney, is finding out about loads of celebrity gossip, and then sharing it with all you lovely readers, here on the Man and Vans blog. This week we’ve been hearing about one of our oldest (not in age, of course, just in terms of how long they’ve lasted in the pressurised world of Hollywood) and most lovable couples- Sarah-Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick. They were recently spotted viewing a $24 million house in the trendy West Village area of Manhattan, as SJ wants to stay right in the heart of New York, even though moving to the suburbs would mean a lot more room for her, her hubby, and the three children that they have together. The road on which the nine-bedroom house which has taken their fancy is situated, is apparently also where rock God Jimi Hendrix also once lived.
If, like SJ and Matt, you’re a massive celebrity and moving to an extremely expensive property, you need a removals company you can trust. Look no further than Man and Vans Hackney; our staff are friendly and efficient, meaning all you need to worry about is which of the nice bedrooms you’ll be sleeping in….

Keep safe on Facebook with Man and Vans Camden

June 30th, 2010
keep your stuff safe like we do at man and vasn camden 150x150Let’s face it, these days if you’re not on Facebook, Myspace, Bebo, Hi-Five or any other social networking site, you’re basically completely out of the loop, and have no life to speak of. Somewhat ironic, we feel. And when one is part of said social networking sites, one is inclined to share as much of one’s personal information with the world as possible, so that everyone can see what exciting things one is up to at any time of the day or night. But what about the potential dangers of letting everyone know when you’re around, when you’re out of the house, and when you’re on holiday? Who knows who’ll be reading that information, potentially knowing where it is that you live, and planning on making off with your prized possessions whilst the place is empty. Here at Man and Vans Camden, we’re dedicated to looking after your stuff whilst it’s in our care, whether we’re picking it up and dropping it off, or helping you do a full house move- and we think you should take care of it, too. So our advice to you is this- keep your personal info between friends, don’t spread it around where anyone could find it.
If you’d like any more information about how Man and Vans Camden could help you with your move, and the security we offer, please do get in touch and one of our team will be able to answer any questions you may have.

Man and Vans London meets loved ones at the airport

June 23rd, 2010
man and vans London can help with pick ups 150x150We’re all busy these days, working long hours to pay the bills, and then trying to sociable with our colleagues/chums after work, before running home to see the significant other/the kids, to kiss them goodnight and possibly read a story (to the kids, that is. Usually, anyhow). We want to make sure everyone feels loved and treasured, which isn’t always so easy to do with such time constraints, which is how Man and Vans London can help.
If your family are planning on taking a trip away, and you simply cannot find a way to weasel out of work to collect them from the airport, let us do the hard work so you don’t have to. Following a unique and exciting enquiry from a client last week, we can now officially say that our guys will take any selected pets (provided they come with the appropriate carrying/transporting equipment) to any airport, and collect passengers at the other end, with the aforementioned animals there to give an extra special and welcoming surprise. It’s not quite the same as having you there, but it’s a pretty good substitute until you’re able to escape the office.
So if you’re looking to treat the ones you love to a welcome home that they’ll not forget in a hurry, and of course get some extra brownie points for your own thoughtfulness, please do get in touch and we can help arrange it for you. We look forward to hearing from you!

Antiques stolen during house removal

June 16th, 2010
man and vans merton will keep your antiques safe 150x150As with most people, we at Man and Vans Merton like to keep up with current affairs, and always keep an eye on the news for more interesting things going on in the world of removals (and around the rest of the world, of course…). We were shocked and horrified, however, to read about an antiques collector who recently suffered a burglary right outside his old home, as the removal van was parked and loaded, ready to take his prized possessions to his new residence. Around midday on the 22nd May, the thieves seized the opportunity to nick the van, presumably having been watching carefully whilst the loading had been taking place, leaving the antiques’ owner having to move house without some of his most sentimental and valuable possessions. Police around the Caterham area, where the incident took place, have asked antique dealers to keep an eye out for some of the items in the vehicle.
At Man and Vans Merton, we take every possibly precaution to keep your valuables and other items safe from harm during every stage of the moving process. If you’d like to test out our friendly and reliable service, then please give us a call with details of your move, and we’ll turn up and do the rest. We look forward to hearing from you!

Man and Vans Lambeth gets the party started

June 9th, 2010

man and vans lambeth gets summer parties started 150x150It’s summer at last in the UK. The sun seems to be poking it’s lazy head out from the clouds, and it looks like we might just have something of a decent chance to get a tan on home turf. Not only this, but it’s time to get organising some super summer parties, booking your friends for your date of choice, and making sure you’ve got all the food and decorations needed to make it a bash to remember. Maybe you’re even going the whole hog and renting a venue for your summer party, and maybe you’ve got tonnes of awesome props/decorative pieces to move…which is where Man and Vans Lambeth comes in. With our friendly and efficient service, and with boys that could lift a large elephant (we’re not sure about this one, but it’s somewhat likely), we can move your streamers/baubles/paddling pool (we’re thinking pool party here), from wherever you are, to wherever the fun will be, whenever suits you. Sounds good, doesn’t it? So drop us a line and one of our friendly team will be able to give you a quote for your move. Please note: we love parties, and love getting invited. Just so you know.

Man and Vans and Snuffles the Python

June 2nd, 2010
man and vans London could move your python 150x150It was a regular Wednesday afternoon in the Man and Vans London office…at least it was until we received something of an usual request. “Do you move rare species of animals?” inquired a potential customer over the livechat application on our website, “As I have a python and a tarantula who need taking somewhere”. After a little thinking and discussion around the office, yes, said we, as long as they are in a secure box and can travel safely in the back of the van without supervision. “Hmmm”, quoth the potential customer, “thing is, Snuffles, the python, is afraid of the dark”. It was at this point we got a little suspicious (we later found out it was our Soph playing a little joke on us, what a card she is), but it did get us thinking.
If you have any animals you need moving, and are able to take full responsibility for their comfort and safety whilst they travel with us, then please do get in touch and we’ll be able to talk through carrying your kitty, or moving your mouse. If they are afraid of the dark, however, it does make the whole process a little tricky…

In-Van entertainment with Man and Vans Southwark

May 26th, 2010
keep the kids occupied with man and vans southwark 150x150We’ve all been there; you’re driving somewhere, maybe on a family holiday, with the kids packed into the back of the car, endlessly asking “Are we nearly there yet?”, to which the answer is often (unfortunately for you, the long-suffering driver), “No”.
In-car/van entertainment is something that we at Man and Vans Southwark are much-practiced in, due to all the long-distance (and short distance) driving we do for our beloved clients up and down the UK. This also means we’re well-practiced in the art of in-drive entertainment, and this week, faithful reader, we’re sharing some of these ideas with you:
Sing-along Tapes: The variety of sing-a-long tapes available, ranging from practicing one’s times tables, to the ultimate collection of Disney’s greatest hits, means there really is something for everyone to enjoy. We unfortunately cannot guarantee, however, that you’ll enjoy the music created by your passengers.
Yellow car: The rules are simple: you spot a yellow car and you yell “Yellow car” at the top of your lungs. The first one to do so wins a point. Warning: This game can escalate in volume and violent impulses very quickly, so should be carefully monitored.
Magentic board games: A good, old-fashioned way of keeping nippers, and older passengers, entertained. They come in a variety of gaming versions, and it’s extremely difficult to lose the pieces because of the magnets. Wonderful.
If you have any more boredom-busting car-friendly activities that you’d like to share with us, then please do get in touch-we always love to hear from you!

Man and Vans Westminster deal with Marathon Traffic

March 8th, 2010

man and vans westminster supports the London MarathonEvery year in the capital, the London Marathon takes place. The run proves to be great event for thousands of competitors, from all around the world, to come together and race along the course to raise money for numerous charities. One of the toughest feats that someone can put themselves through, we at Man and Van Westminster take our hats off to everyone running the 2010 event.
On the day, roads are of course closed throughout the city centre, which makes it advisable, as always, to check your driving route before you travel. It is particularly important for us at Man and Vans to do so on a regular basis, so that we can ensure we arrive on time and ready to start when the client has requested. Road improvements and blockages are all too frequent in the capital, so stay on top of the traffic reports, and make sure you get where you need to be, when you need to be there.
If you have any questions about any of our services or the areas in which we can move your wears (pretty much anywhere in the UK!), then please do get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you.
